Hoof Care

Hoof Care: An Essential Part of Whole-Horse Care

At Sunny Sugarcreek Stables, we believe regular hoof care is essential to maintaining a healthy, comfortable horse. We strongly encourage our boarders to participate in their horse’s routine hoof care whenever possible. For those who are unable to do so, we offer hoof care services as an optional add-on.

For $75, we provide 30 hoof picks. This service does not have to be completed daily; but scheduled according to the horse's need.

During each pick, we:
-Check and clean all four hooves, removing debris and packed material.
-Look for signs of thrush or other hoof concerns.
-Contact the owner if something needs attention or treatment.
-Keep a record of the hoof picks used.

We also maintain clean, deep bedding in the stalls, providing horses with a dry, comfortable surface when they come in for their daily meals.

We work with two trusted, highly skilled farriers who bring years of experience and a thoughtful approach to working with a variety of horses and hoof-care needs.

Josh Miller, owner of A7 Forge Farrier Service, is a professional journeyman farrier and is certified through the American Farrier Association. His experience and skill allow him to provide knowledgeable, professional farrier care while considering each horse's individual needs.

Ryan Malone is also an experienced farrier who completed his apprenticeship under an established farrier. He brings a well-rounded background and years of hands-on experience to his work.

Both farriers understand that every horse is an individual. We value their ability to work thoughtfully with each horse and to adapt their approach based on the horse's conformation, movement, environment and overall needs.

As part of our continued commitment to whole-horse care, we also hope to welcome a holistic hoof-care practitioner to our team in the future.

Our goal is to support healthy, comfortable hooves through prevention, regular observation, proper maintenance, natural movement, and appropriate footing. We work together with each horse's owner, farrier, veterinarian, and other qualified professionals to identify concerns early and provide individualized care. Our approach is thoughtful, natural, and centered on the comfort and well-being of each horse.
